​SARASOTA GARDEN CLUB FLORAL DESIGN CLASSES: 2018 – 2019

October 2, 2018: $30 - Review of the Basic 6: Beginners and Newly Beginners: This is a must! 9AM - 2PM: Limit: 25
An incredible opportunity with award winning designer Jan Griffin. This review of classes 1-6 basic floral design will cover Elements and Principles of Design, symmetry, table designs and con- tainer choices.

Students will create their own interpretation of a design entitled “Florida,” using their own container. Participants need clippers and container of choice to interpret Florida.


November 6, 2018: $25 - Table Designs for Festive Occasions - 10AM - 1PM: Limit: 30
Clare Milligan and Betty Call, both flower show judges, will be sharing how to make our holiday tables festive. Ideas for Thanksgiving, New Years and a Florida Patio Party will be demonstrated using succulents.

Students will make a design for their own table to take home.


December 4, 2018: $30 - New Medium Exploration - 10AM - 1PM: Limit: 25.
Elaine Schweitzer and Barbara Jacobson the “Dynamic Duo” will share several new art mediums including alcohol inks and acrylic pours. Instructors will share ideas for projects and floral design. Applications such as canvas panels, ceramic tiles, decorative paper, wine glasses or mugs, tree ornaments; and pendants will be shown.

Students will have 3 completed projects to take home. Participants need to bring an apron or paint shirt. All other materials are provided.


January 15, 2019: $25 - Underwater Design - 10AM-1PM: LIMIT: 30
Sara Bagley, who did our leaf manipulation class last year, is back to teach about underwater designs. She will demonstrate underwater contemporary designs in which some or all of its components are visible under water. There will be a hands-on opportunity to experience how the choice of containers, plant materials and mechanics are affected by the additional presence of water.


February 5, 2019: $25 - Turn Ordinary to Extraordinary - 10AM-1PM: LIMIT: 30
Mary Lou Johnson, Virginia Flower Show Judge and Design Co-Chair, will demonstrate unique ways to enhance containers and table
arrangements. Decorative wire, midollino reed, and other creative materials will be demonstrated to turn the ordinary to extraordi- nary. Participants will have hands-on fun transforming a container using leaves and their creativity.


March 5, 2019: $25 - Tropicals in Paradise - 10AM-1PM: LIMIT: 30
Betty Call, experienced judge and lecturer will teach us how to use tropicals and how to preserve flowers. This floral design workshop will include ideas on usage of tropical foliage and plant material for home or in flower shows. Students will make a tropical table design to enhance their personal paradise.


April 2, 2019: $25 - Fun with Succulent Flowers - 10AM-1PM: LIMIT: 30
The comical team of Dianne Beaver and Jean Ruff are together again to offer fun ideas using succulents. Find out some great ways to use succulents in your home and garden designs. Participants will make and take their own unique succulent dish garden.
