Gardeners Out East 2020 - 2021  Program Calendar
We generally meet the second Monday of the month, 1:00 to 3:00 pm, from September to May.
Covid 19 still rears its ugly head so this Program Calendar is still tentative and TBD
We won't be meeting at LWR Town Hall for some time to come as they limit the number of participants.

September 14, 2020: "Insect Pests and Beneficial Insects in the Garden" 
  • 1:00 to 3:00 pm via Zoom
  • presented by Mack Lessig, UF/IFAS Extension.
  • Learn about basic entomology, signs and diagnostic features of pest insects, how to identify beneficial insects, and some management strategies for garden pests.

October 12, 2020: "Guided Walk/Tour Rye Preserve"
  • 9:00 to 11:00 am
  • 905 Rye Wilderness Trail, Parrish, FL 34219  --  (941) 776-0900
  • Guided by Norma Kisida
  • Start on the Green trail that goes to the cemetery then the orange loop through some scrub area
  • About a half mile in length
  • Meet at the covered pavilion on the left when you get to the park.

November 9, 2020: "Gopher Tortoises and the Habitat Restoration Project at Rye Preserve" *
  • 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm - Zoom meeting
  • Speaker: Coral Bass and Ray Vinson from Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources​
  • * See some fun facts on tortoises under our "Education" drop-down menu

December 14, 2020: "The role that our retention ponds and wetlands play in stormwater control and water quality."
  •  1:00 pm to 3:00 pm - Zoom meeting
  • Speaker: George Colbath, owner of Pond Professionals 

January 11, 2021: "Orchid Care"
  • Time: Meet at Palmer Orchids at 1:00 PM
  • Palmer Orchids will do a presentation at their facility: 22700 Taylor Dr, Bradenton, FL 34211                              DIRECTIONS: Take I-75N to the SR70 exit. Head east on SR70 for 10 miles, then turn left on CR675. Continue north on CR675 for 4 miles, then turn left on Taylor Dr.
  • Please being your own chairs - wear a mask and social distance while there.
  • A $10 CASH fee will be charged which may be used toward a purchase on our meeting date.

  • 1:00 to 3:00 pm:  South West Florida Therapy Animals - We will have some calming interactions with their therapy animals! 
  • 5115 Lorraine Road, Bradenton (Just north of SR 70 on the right)
  • Guests are welcome!
