Gardeners Out East 2018 - 2019  Program Calendar
We generally meet the second Monday of the month, 1:00 pm, from September to May.

We are working this summer on next year's 2019 -2020 programs.  See the link below to suggest a program!

September 10, 2018: "The Care and Growing of Palms" 
  • 1:00 to 3:00 pm: Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, Salon C, 8175 Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, Lakewood Ranch 34202
  • Presented by: Manatee County Master Gardener Amy Stripe
  • ​NOTE: A short business meeting will follow the presentation.

​​October 8, 2018: Visit Manatee Farms – Wholesale Flower Grower
  • 1:00 to 3:00 pm: Manatee Farms: 11703 40th Ave W., Bradenton
  • Acres of Greenhouses filled with flowers. Learn about growing flowers for wholesale; the environmental issues and more facing growers today. Tour of greenhouses with opportunity to purchase flowers grown at that time. 
  • TBD:  Members to plan lunch in nearby prior to our tour as well as opportunities for shopping in the area after the tour. 

November 12, 2018:   "The 'How To' of Flower Arranging using Store bought Flowers."
  • 1:00 to 3:00 pm: Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, Salon A,  8175 Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, Lakewood Ranch 34202
  • A demonstration presented by Sylvia Bird, Floral Designer, AIFD, AAAF, PFCI, NDSF

December 18, 2018 - Holiday Luncheon

January 14, 2019: "Vegetables in Containers and in the Garden"
  • 1:00 to 3:00 pm:  Lakewood Ranch YMCA, 5100 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch, FL  34211
  • Presented By:  Carol Fanella
  • Carol will explain through narration and slides how to incorporate growing veggies in with your regular landscape or container planting. 

February 11, 2019: "Protecting Threatened Gopher Tortoises and Indigo Snakes"
  • 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm: Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, 8175 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202
  • Presented by: Chase Pirtle
  • BIO: 
    • ​Bio: Chase Pirtle is the Animal Care Specialist and Habitat Manager at Ashton Biological Preserve in Archer, FL. He has worked at a wolf sanctuary, has his FL FWC venomous license, as well as his authorized gopher tortoise agent permit. Chase completed a two-year animal science program in New Jersey, attended a forestry and wildlife ecology program in Sou Carolina, and graduated from the Santa Fe Teaching Zoo in FL. 

March 11, 2019:   "Using Flowers & Herbs for Wellness"

  • Presented by: Laurel James of Four Pillars Spa which is located in San Marco Plaza, Lakewood Ranch, FL

April 8, 2019:  "EarthBox: Learn how an EarthBox makes it simple and easy to grow edibles and flowers"
  • 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm: Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, 8175 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202
  • Presented by: EarthBox Garden Center
  • There will be a raffle!

May 13, 2019:  "Gardeners Out East Season Finale for Members and their Guests" 
  • 11:30 am – 1:30 pm: Peace Presbyterian Church, 12704 SR 64, Lakewood Ranch Fl 34212
  • Driving Directions to Peace Presbyterian :  
    From Lakewood Ranch Blvd. North, turn right (East) onto SR 64; travel on SR 64 east 1.1 miles to a left turn lane into the church's driveway.
    If you reach Pope Road, you have gone too far on SR 64.
  • Members bring a dish to share including a serving utensil; the board will provide beverages and dessert.  
  • RSVP by May 1, 2019
